We recently premiered our new interactive “About us” video on qbrick.com. The video showcases our different areas of business, what services we provide & little bit about our company history. So, how did we make this video? And why? How can you make one yourself? Let’s get into it!

What does an interactive "About us" video look like?

Before we jump into the details of how and why an interactive “About us” video is made, we need to present an example. Press play to have a look!

Curious about how a video like this is made? Let’s go deeper into the “why” and “how“.

Why should I present my company with an interactive video?

Employer branding is an extremely important part of your business communication. Showcasing WHO you are, as well as WHAT you do, is equally important now that consumers are becoming more and more aware of companies’ (1) ethics, (2) personality & 3) branding.

There are a multitude of reasons why you would want to produce an interactive video to present yourself, instead of relying on text and static images. Here’s a quick run-down:

Enhanced engagement

Interactive videos transform passive viewers into active participants, allowing them to choose what they want to learn about your company. By clicking on different sections, users can dive deeper into specific topics like company history, culture, or services. This personalization keeps viewers engaged longer, making the experience memorable. Speaking of memorable…

Memorable First Impression

The “About Us” page is often one of the first stops for potential clients, partners, and job applicants. An interactive video provides a unique, engaging experience that leaves a strong, positive impression. It can make your company appear more modern, creative, and approachable.

Showcase your innovative spirit

An interactive video on your “About Us” page signals that your company is forward-thinking and technologically savvy. It helps you stand out from competitors who may still be relying on static content or traditional methods of communication. This is particularly important for companies in tech, media, or any industry where innovation is crucial. Who do you want to be?

Getting to know you through interactive storytelling

Through interactive videos, companies can tell their stories in a more dynamic and immersive way. For example, viewers could follow different paths based on their interests—whether that’s meeting the team, seeing office culture, or understanding the company’s impact. This flexibility helps you convey a deeper, more nuanced narrative.

User analytics & insights

Interactive videos provide rich data on user engagement, allowing you to track which sections of the video were the most popular & how long viewers stayed engaged. This data can help you optimize both the video and other marketing strategies based on user preferences and behaviors.

Mobile friendly!

With more people browsing on mobile devices, interactive videos provide a seamless, visually compelling experience that translates well across devices. Rather than scrolling through lengthy text on small screens, users can interact directly with the video content, making for a more pleasant mobile experience.

Boost your SEO score

Embedding an interactive video on your “About Us” page can improve time-on-page metrics, which is a ranking factor for SEO. The longer users stay on your site and engage with your content, the better it signals to search engines that your content is valuable, potentially boosting your overall search rankings.

What do I present in my interactive "About us" video?

This is your moment to present your company, services, team members and everything else you’re proud of and want to highlight for customers, employees and investors.

Here are some ideas of what to include in an “About us” video:

Company Introduction: This could include company history, mission and values and what you do.

Leadership/Team spotlight: Show the faces behind your company.

Showreel/Highlight reel: Customer sucess stories, milestones, product/services demo.

Office culture/BTS: Office tour, company events, day-in-the-life.

Company values in Action: Social responsibility, diversity and inclusion efforts, sustainability.

Future Vision and Innovation: Where your company is headed, commitment to innovation.

How do I make my own interactive "About us" video?

There are a few steps you have to go through to get an interactive “About us” video produced.

We know what you’re thinking: Is it difficult? That depends on a few factors: 1) Level of production quality, 2) Whether you do it in-house or hire professionals, 3) Software and hardware choices.

Before you decide where you want to position yourself on the difficulty scale, here are the steps you go through when creating your very own “About us” video:

Production (filming your footage)

There are many options you can choose from when it comes to video production. To be clear, when we’re talking about production in this section, we’re talking about filming footage for interviews, testimonials and other filmed material that you want to showcase in your interactive video. We will go through creating interactive menus (and also 3D environments) in later sections.

First, the method of filming can be anything from utilising an in-house production team to film, hiring a professional team to do it for you – or filming yourself using a webcam and/or mobile phone.

If you want to include screen recordings you can use a screen recorder that can capture your screen as well as your face/voice to explain what you’re presenting.

We have some more production tips in our HOW TO series here.

Editing/trimming your footage

To edit your filmed footage you need a video editor where you can trim and adjust footage, add effects, text and other design assets.

Go through each video and remove any sections where you stutter, forget your words or made mistakes.

Improve framing by re-sizing your video.

Add text assets as needed; to introduce new topics, present names or further explain what you’re talking about.

Export each video as separate medias to prepare you for the next section.

Making your video interactive and creating interactive menus

Now we’re getting to the good part! How do you make all of these separate videos into one interactive video to present your company?

In order to do this, you need an interactive video editor.

What is an interactive video editor? It’s an online service where you can add clickable buttons and connect different scenes into one experience. We’re experts in this area, but we understand that for some this may be a new concept. So let’s go through a typical scenario step by step.

To connect all your videos into one experience you need to create an interactive menu as your first scene. This menu scene can look and function in anyway you want. The important thing is that it links to each video that you have recorded and want your audience to see.

A simple version you can try is putting clickable buttons on a background and adding your logo in the corner.

Using a video editor like ours, you can create more advanced menus with video clips and animated text.

Link each button to one of your recorded videos.

Now, it’s time to add interactivity to your recorded video scenes.

The most important thing to add is a navigational button that takes the viewer to another place in your interactive experience. For example, it would be good to add a “back” or “menu” button to let your audience go back to the navigational menu.

Make sure your audience never gets stuck on one of your videos, as that will break their interactive experience.

You can also add clickable CTAs to guide viewers to other related material or pages.

How to create a more advanced interactive video experience as a beginner

It can be difficult to navigate a production like this when you’re first starting out. When we created our “About us” video, we enlisted the help of our own production team to create unique 3D environments and advanced transitions. Even if you want a more classical 2D look, it’s always easier to rely on experts to make sure you reach your ultimate goal.

In this next section, we’re going to explain how our production team can help you create a professional interactive video.

Whether you’re looking to create a 3D experience like we did, or a high-quality 2D video experience, our team can help you every step of the way.

So, you may ask, what goes into hiring professional help to create an interactive video? Here’s a run-down of each step:

1

Conceptualizing

This is where we sit down and agree on a vision for the final project.

2

Storyboard

A storyboard is sketched out, showing an overview of what the film will look like and how the interactivity will work.

3

Production

Video production: Filming in studio, 3D modelling, animatics, texturing & lighting.

4

Draft & feedback

A low resolution draft of the film is rendered out and sent to you for feedback purposes.

5

Compositing & Interactivity

The animation is stitched together & interactive functionality is added on top.
